Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our program, eligibility, mentorship, admissions, tuition, and outcomes.

Program Overview

What is Ignite Achievers and how does the program work?

Ignite Achievers is a high school research program for ambitious students who want to strengthen their college admissions profile. Students work with research-active university professors through structured mentorship to design, conduct, and complete an original research paper.

How is Ignite Achievers different from other high school research programs?

We pair students directly with actively publishing university professors and offer group, hybrid, and one-on-one tracks, along with support for publication and conference presentation.

What makes research mentorship valuable for high school students?

It builds critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills that are highly valued in competitive admissions, while producing a tangible outcome: a completed research paper and, potentially, a publication.

Is the program online, on-campus, or hybrid?

All current programs are conducted online and open to students worldwide. Three formats are available: Group Research (12 weeks), Hybrid (5 weeks group, 5 weeks one-on-one), and One-on-One (12 weeks, fully customized). An on-campus summer intensive is in development.

What subjects or research topics can I choose?

Students can pursue research in computer science, AI, machine learning, STEM, humanities, economics, genetics, social sciences, and more.

Can I do interdisciplinary research combining multiple fields?

Yes. Many students pursue interdisciplinary projects that merge two or more academic areas.

Do I need to have a research topic before applying?

No. Our admissions team and professor mentors help you choose a research direction once you're in the program.

How long is the program, and how many sessions are included?

Most programs run 10 to 12 weeks with weekly mentorship sessions; the exact length depends on the program format you choose.

How is the group research program structured compared to the one-on-one program?

The Group Research Program brings together small cohorts for live, interactive sessions over 12 weeks. The One-on-One Program is fully personalized to your topic and pace. The Hybrid Program combines both approaches.

Eligibility

Who is eligible to apply?

High school students in grades 9 through 12, or in a gap year, from anywhere in the world, with strong academic performance and a passion for learning.

Can international students join the program?

Yes. International students are welcome in our online and summer research programs.

Is the program open to 9th and 10th graders, or only 11th and 12th graders?

All of the above — students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible, with the program structured to meet each grade level where it is: 9th and 10th graders build foundational research skills, while 11th and 12th graders get a head start on college-level research ahead of applications.

Can younger students (below grade 9) prepare for future participation?

Yes. While the program isn't open to students below grade 9 yet, we're glad to offer guidance to help motivated younger students prepare for future participation.

Do I need prior research experience to apply?

No. Our programs are designed to guide students from beginner to advanced levels.

What GPA or academic background is required?

Strong academic performance is recommended but not mandatory to succeed in the program.

Is English proficiency required for international applicants?

The program is conducted entirely in English, so you should be comfortable participating in discussions and writing in English. Perfect fluency isn't required.

Mentorship & Research

How are students matched with university professors?

We carefully review each application and match students with research-active professors whose specialty aligns with their interests.

Can I choose my mentor or research field?

You can indicate your preferred research area on your application, and a mentor is assigned accordingly.

What if my mentor isn't the right fit?

Reassignment to another professor is available early in the program if needed.

How often will I meet with my mentor?

Most students meet with their mentor weekly, according to the structured research program schedule.

Can I contact my mentor between sessions?

Yes. Communication outside of scheduled sessions is encouraged for clarifications and feedback.

What kind of research paper will I produce?

An original research paper that reflects university-level academic standards, on a topic you help shape with your mentor.

Does Ignite Achievers help students publish their research?

Yes. For an additional fee, we offer support with editing, formatting, and submission to academic journals and conferences.

Will my mentor write a recommendation letter for me?

Recommendation letters are provided at the mentor's discretion, for students whose work meets a high standard of academic excellence.
